Travel Essentials

On our travels, we have learnt where to get the best deal, what’s the best equipment, how to do certain things and when to do what. This is a resource we want to make available to you so you can skip some of the mistakes that we’ve made and jump ahead, make the best decisions and choose the right products! Below are a list of the products and services that we personally use, honestly like and recommend.

Our favorite stores include AmazonB&H Photo Video and Think Tank Photo.

Hosting

Highly recommended! All our photos are hosted on Smugmug. It not only speeds up load time on our posts, it also  provides a platform for which one can view our photos in its full glory (different viewing layout, high resolution, editing features, beautiful colors and unlimited storage). Use coupon code diwoVYaEGTO8U to get a $5 discount for your subscription.[/threefourths_last]

Amazon Kindle

We never leave on our travel without our Kindle. This enables us to carry many books with us without the bulk and it keeps us occupied during those spare travel moments. It’s our source for quick language reference when we’re traveling. Another one of our favorite features is that we can connect to the internet from almost anywhere in the world for FREE with a 3G version! There are Wi-fi only Kindles too, which are slightly cheaper. We own a Kindle 2 3G (older generation) and have gifted this new generation Kindle to our family.

Kindle Covers

To protect the New Generation Kindle, we purchased this lighted cover. We highly recommend it as it is sturdy, light comes in handy when reading in low light, protects the Kindle from scratches and makes it easy to hold. For the old generation Kindle (Kindle 2), we used this cover instead. It looks great and is also very sturdy. We love these covers!

Apple iPad 2

Another must have when we travel. We have the iPad 2 32GB model, purchased from the Apple store. We have some of our favorite games and apps on the iPad 2. We have 1 Kindle. When one of us is using the Kindle, the other plays games on the iPad 2 during our spare travel moments. We also use our iPad 2 to jot down travel notes!

JAVOedge Editor Axis Case

We have an Apple Smart Cover to protect our iPad 2 when at home. But because the Smart Cover does not include back protection, we purchased an extra cover that we use specifically for when we’re out and about. The reason we like this cover is because it’s sturdy (front AND back protection), has a nice texture, puts the ipad 2 to sleep when the cover is closed (wakes the ipad 2 up when the cover is opened) and has a rotatable back that acts as a kickstand to prop the iPad up for hands-free horizontal OR vertical viewing. We looked at a lot of cases and chose this because it looks sleek AND is functional.

Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B Noise Cancelling Headphones

We carry Audio Technica noise cancelling headphones on our travel. Since it costs half the price of Bose Quiet Comfort 3 or Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headphones (highly recommended by those who owns this), we were skeptical of how effective it would be. We were surprised when we tried it on our flight! It was highly effective! It got rid of the rumblings of the engines and amplified the audio coming from our in-flight entertainment! It was like we were not in a plane at all but was at home, listening to surround sound! We had to take the headphones off to check that we were still in flight. We love this headphone and highly recommend it.
