{Canada} Our favorite restaurants in Whistler, BC

Seafood Medley

After a long day of skiing, sitting down to a delicious meal at the end of the day is something we look forward to everytime we head to Whistler, BC.

Whistler is a 2.5 hours drive from Vancouver. It is a pretty straight forward drive. There’s only one way up and that’s through Highway 99, better known as the Sea to Sky Highway. We’ve always driven to Whistler but you can also get there by bus, taxi, train and air. Do a quick search on the internet and you’ll see the various companies that offer bus, taxi, sedan/limo, train and air service to Whistler.

Now back to the topic at hand… our favorite restaurants in Whistler.

In no particular order, here are a few we’d recommend you visit when you are in Whistler. We didn’t bring our SLR with us this time, so here are photos of the food taken using our Nexus and Lumia 920 phones.

1  RIMROCK CAFE & OYSTER BAR

We love the seafood at this restaurant. Actually, everything’s good here! Reservations for this restaurant fills up fast, so be sure to make your reservation ahead of time before you even get to Whistler. Here’s just a sampling of what we recently enjoyed when we went there for dinner…

Lobster Bisque – mouthwatering, perfectly flavored lobster bisque as our appetizer. (Photo taken using Nokia Lumia 920)

Fish Trio – Can’t decide on which fish dish to order? Try their “trio” that features all three on their menu. The Trio is not on the menu. You need to ask the waiter/waitress for their special. (Photo taken using a Nokia Lumia 920)

A special of theirs – elk! It was the best dish among the three main entree we ordered. Apparently they’ve not served it for three years and is now a special not in their menu. (Photo taken using a Nokia Lumia 920)

Seafood Medley

Seafood Medley – Lobster, Shrimp and Scallop. If you love seafood, you’ll love this dish. The risotto very nicely complemented the seafood! (Photo taken using a Nokia Lumia 920)

Sticky Toffee Pudding – don’t miss this! We don’t have pictures because we finished it before we could take one! Check out its picture on Rimrock’s website here.

2 ARAXI

Favorite dish: Roasted saddle of rabbit.

So far, the rabbit dishes we’ve had always tasted a bit dry, like chicken breast. However, this rabbit dish at Araxi is different. It is cooked perfectly and tastes nothing like chicken. Everything on the plate complement each other so well, creating a delicious and flavorful combination until the last bite!

Rabbit dish.

Saddle of Rabbit. It did not taste like dried chicken breast like most rabbit dishes we’ve tried before. This was delicious! Give it a go when you’re at Araxi! We highly recommend it. (Photo taken using a Nexus phone)

3 WILD WOOD PACIFIC BISTRO & BAR

Two words – Eggs Benedict.

The original benny (with ham) is our favorite but they also have others (salmon, crab etc…) that you can try. We’d recommend ordering at least one of the original eggs benedict though. Sorry, no pictures this time. We were just so hungry, we finished the food before we were able to take a picture of it!

TIPS & TAKEAWAYS

  1. Whistler is 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver.
  2. It’s a straight drive up Highway 99 from Vancouver- you can get there by bus, taxi/limo/sedan, train or even fly.
  3. Creekside is further away from the slopes than Upper Village. I’d recommend staying at the main village if you can afford it, if not, Upper Village has plenty of ski in/ski out apartments. Our favorite accommodations are Aspens and Greystone Lodge.
  4. Recommended restaurants – Rimrock Cafe & Oyster Bar, Araxi and Wildwood Pacific Bistro & Bar
  5. Be sure to get reservations in ahead of time at Rimrock and Araxi.
  6. If you call and they’re fully booked, check Open Table. Sometimes there are reserved seating that can only be booked through Open Table. We got a last minute reservation at Araxi that way (we called and were told they were full, so we checked Open Table and got a table for 5 booked through it).

Have you been to Whistler? What are your favorite restaurants?

Those dishes certainly look mouthwatering. And I love that the sticky toffee pudding was too good to even pause for a photo.

I remember having the most delicious portabello mushroom dish in Whistler; it was layered with spinach and goat cheese. However, this was almost five years ago and I can’t remember the name of the restaurant at all! I’ll have to check out one of your picks the next time I’m there.

Never been to Whistler, but heard the place is gorgeous! I loved Vancouver when I visited in 2011 and would love to go back soon 🙂

Those dishes look delicious. I’ve been to Vancouver a few times, but I’ve never been to Whistler – should definitely try to go one day.

Wow, what a meal. I love Whistler! Have you been to Araxi? Mogul’s has some pretty good cheap eats too.
