{USA} Log Cabin Camping @Olympic National Park

While we’re on the subject of camping, another memorable camping trip we went on was to Olympic National Park at Olympic Peninsula in the state of Washington (West Seattle). This was a couple of years back. I know it’s a bit early to be talking about camping but some campsites get fully booked months ahead of summer, so to ensure you get a spot, make sure to check availability early!

“One of our favorite things to is to put our beach chairs right on the shore where the tides break!”

We spent a 4-day weekend at Olympic National Park. There are many options for accommodation around the park. We chose to stay at Kalaloch Lodge because we’ve stayed there in the past and always had a great experience, especially if you go with a group of friends. The lodge cabins are clean, spacious and has a kitchenette. Our favorite meal is having hot pot in the lodge after a long day of driving to the park.

It’s roughly a 3.5 hours drive to Olympic National Park from downtown Seattle. You can skip the long drive by taking a ferry or flying into Port Angeles. More information & directions to get there are listed here.

Places of interest that we visited while we were there include:

  1. Forks town (favorite among Twilight fans)
  2. Rialto Beach
  3. Hurricane Ridge
  4. Ruby Beach
  5. Cape Flattery
  6. Hoh Rain Forest

Here are pictures from our trip. Kalaloch Lodge…
Forks…

Rialto Beach… go when it’s low tide (ask the ranger at the ranger stations for best time to visit beaches). When it’s low tide, you get to see the tide pools, colorful starfish and anemones. One of our favorite things to is to put our beach chairs right on the shore where the tides break. Makes for beautiful pictures…

Cape Flattery is the northwesternmost point of the Contiguous United States. After a short leisurely hike, you will get to lookout points with beautiful scenery. It’s not very stroller and wheelchair friendly though because of the bumps on the way there.

Ruby Beach and Hoh Rain Forest are among our favorite places to visit at the Olympic National Park. Hoh Rain Forest and Ruby Beach can be explored for a few hours within a day.

Then consider hiking Hurricane Ridge on a nice sunny day. It’s a year-round destination. Hiking in the summer and skiing/boarding in the winter. Hurricane Hill has an elevation of 5,200 feet (1,585m). You can drive up to the Visitor’s Center and then hike up the 3 mile trail.

Hope you will get a chance to check out this beautiful location!

There are so many great National Parks in America, I can see someone has a natural flare for photography as the photos really do set the scene for the holiday. I would love to get back to America again soon, myself and my wife fancy a road trip so might just add Olympic Park to one of our destinations.

This is the first time I’ve hit your site and I just want to give you big kudos! Your website and work are fantastic. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Olympic National Park…wonderful area. I’ve stayed at a few great B&B’s in the Sequim and Port Angeles area, as well as camped on the beach outside of Neah Bay and hiked all over Cape Flattery. If your readers are interested in more info on the area, they can visit http://www.MikesRoadTrip.com, I have a number of posts with pics and video. My pics however pale in comparison to yours.

I look forward to following you guys now that I’ve discovered your site. Cheers, Mike

Hey Guys! Why thank you very much! I noticed that you’re out of Seattle? Will you be in town in a couple weeks? I will be staying a couple blocks from Alki Beach and will be there around the 16th of Sept.
